Akira Kurosaw's Dreams...a review

Dreams is a six 15 minute short movies that are supposedly based on Kurosawa's own dreams. The only reason i say supposedly is because from my personal experience i can not remember my own dreams five minutes after they happened. Some of these stories are dreams from when Kurosawa was a little kid and the others seem to push an agenda a bit. I don't care either way though.

The dreams go in chronological order and coming from one persons subconscious, have a little bit of a connection but there is no story here, which could bother some people. The dreams cover ideas such as a childs fear and sadness, a soldiers regrets, the fear of a nuclear fallout and finally love of nature life and simplicity.

The early dreams bored me a bit at times but that was offset by some of the most beautiful visuals I have ever seen. The second half of the dreams got my attention a lot when they show a nuclear meltdown, the aftermath and a small village that was never touched by technology or pollution. The message alone in these dreams was enough for me to really enjoy the movie. I could see most people thinking this movie is a complete bore with no purpose. They wouldnt be wrong for thinking this either. I guess what it comes down to is if you are a movie snob you will probably enjoy this movie a lot. If you are a casual movie goer or like movies like armegeddon you will despise Dreams.
